Program Summary
In Shanzu, poverty is often felt most painfully in silence—by the mother skipping dinner so her child can eat, by the elderly man stitching clothes in the dark, by schoolchildren hiding worn-out uniforms under sweaters. The Shanzu Relief Circles offer a gentle lifeline.
This is not just a food or clothing drive—it’s a ritual of compassion. Once every month, our volunteers and partners gather to host safe, welcoming distribution circles for the most vulnerable families. We ensure that the food is nutritious, the clothes are clean and dignified, and the process is kind. No queues of shame. No leftover handouts. Only community care, given with honor.
Scope of Activities
Core Interventions Include:
- Monthly distribution days rotating across informal settlements and high-need zones
- Food bundles: maize flour, rice, lentils, cooking oil, salt, and fortified porridge
- Clothing bundles: gently worn school uniforms, children’s clothes, sweaters, shoes
- Family identification and prioritization through CHWs, local leaders, and self-referrals
- Volunteer mobilization for sorting, registration, and dignified handover
- Follow-up mapping and referrals to additional support services (e.g. livelihoods, shelter)
