Program Summary
Shanzu’s natural beauty—its coastline, mangrove wetlands, and coastal forests—is under threat. Plastic waste chokes river mouths, mangroves die from neglect, fish breeding grounds shrink, and the shoreline erodes by the season. The Shanzu Green Action Program is our grassroots uprising—for the land, the ocean, and the livelihoods that depend on them.
We don’t just plant trees—we restore ecosystems. We don’t just collect waste—we build jobs from it. This program empowers youth and local residents to rehabilitate mangroves, launch coastal clean-ups, build community recycling systems, and ignite long-term behavior change. It’s about dignity. It’s about sustainability. It’s about our future.
Scope of Activities
- Mangrove Reforestation & Coastal Defense
- Restoration of degraded mangrove zones in collaboration with marine authorities
- Youth training in mangrove planting and monitoring
- Community awareness campaigns on the link between mangroves, fish breeding, and shoreline protection
- Plastic Waste Collection & Recycling Hubs
- Establishment of youth-led waste collection teams across target wards
- Partnerships with recyclers to convert plastics into bricks, chairs, fencing materials
- Upcycling workshops & job creation opportunities for women and youth
- Community Receptacle Bin Deployment
- Strategic placement of color-coded bins in households, schools, market centers, and beaches
- Regular collection and transport by foundation waste teams
- Business outreach on responsible waste management, with branded bin sponsorships
- Public Clean-up Campaigns & Eco Education
- Monthly clean-up drives in open-air markets, beaches, roadways
